 听说

        本课程为中级英语听说课程。本课程通过英孚教育SOLO在线学期平台融合了反转课堂学习模式。在学年伊始,学生需要完成语言熟练度测试确定最合适的级别来提高学习效率。在课程结束时,学生将对范围较广的沟通技巧上充满自信,包括讨论他们的梦想及对未来的期待,在面试中描述他们的强弱项,讨论电视观看习惯和音乐偏好,描述典型的健康问题和症状,使用渴望,追求,计划相关的新词汇,详细的描述产品。本课程聚焦于中级语法,集中于现在完成时,一般过去时,过去进行时。在发音上,聚焦于连读和弱元音形式。学生在每节课结束时会收到他们需要具备能力输出语言的语音实例,典型的为一段对话或简短的演讲。任课教师会带领学生进行言语解析,有控制的言语练习和自由口语练习,并定期比对课程目的和目标对学生的学习情况进行评估,最终给到反馈和错误更正。本课程的目标是建立学生听说能力,提高和朋友、同学进行对话的自信,加强对概要和具体信息的能力,巩固学生词汇、语法使用能力同时鼓励学生在课堂外自制学习。课程评估通过连续在线作业,正式的口语期中考试和正式的口语、听力期末考试进行。

 写作

       本课程为中级综合写作课程。在课程结束时,学生将接触正式的学术英语写作和其相关的规范,了解学术写作的风格和结构,在熟悉的情境中发展应用写作技巧。由浅入深,本课程指导学生练习学术写作基础,从构思,下笔,审阅,编辑。至课程一半时,学生将完成一篇完整议论性学术文章作业,要求有较强的逻辑论证,结构优良的大纲,语法正确的句子,包含有吸引力的有效论题的介绍,最后有影响力的结论。在后半部分课程,学生将发展他们的应用写作技巧,情境包括概括信息,写作电影评论,博客和日记,撰写电子邮件,简历和求职信。评估通过预习和复习课堂作业,期中学术写作作业和期末的写作考试进行。本课程以预备学生进行第二学期中级完全学术写作课程为目的进行设计。

Speaking & Listening

This is the intermediate level speaking and listening course, incorporating a flipped learning system through the EF SOLO online platform. At the beginning of the academic year, learners complete oral proficiency tests to be placed into the most appropriate level for learning efficiency.

By the end of the course students will be confident in a wide range of communicative skills, including being able to discuss their dreams and wishes for the future, describe their strengths and weaknesses in an interview, discuss TV watching habits and musical preferences, describe typical health problems and their symptoms, use new vocabulary related to aspirations, ambitions and plans, and describe products in detail.

The course incorporates an intermediate level grammar focus, concentrating on the present perfect, past simple and past continuous tenses as well as phonological focuses on the use of connected speech and weak vowel forms. Learners will receive a model of the language they should produce by the end of each lesson in the form of an audio clip, typically a dialogue or short speech. They are then guided through the processes of language clarification, controlled language practice and free speaking practice by the teacher, who regularly assesses their learning against the class aims and objectives and finally provides feedback and error correction.

The objectives of this course are to build learner competence in speaking and listening, to increase confidence when maintaining a conversation with friends and classmates, to improve the soft skills of listening for gist and listening for specific information, to hone the learner’s use of vocabulary and grammar while widening their range, and to encourage learner autonomy outside of the classroom setting. Assessment comes in the form of continuous online homework, a formal speaking midterm exam and formal speaking and listening final exams.

Writing

This is the intermediate level general writing course. By the end of the course the learners will be introduced to formal academic writing in English and its relevant conventions, develop their understanding of academic writing style and structure, and develop practical writing skills in a number of familiar contexts. Using a ground-up approach, the course guides students through the basics of academic writing – from pre-writing, to writing, to review, to editing. By the middle of the course, learners will produce one complete piece of argumentative academic coursework, including a strong logical argument, a well-structured outline, grammatically correct sentences, an engaging introduction with an effective thesis, and finally an impactful conclusion. In the second half of the course, learners will develop their practical writing skills in contexts such as summarizing information, writing movie reviews, writing blogs and journals, writing emails, writing CVs and cover letters. Assessment comes in the form of continuous homework assignments that preview and review class content, a midterm piece of academic coursework and a final written exam. This course is designed to prepare learners to take the intermediate level full academic writing course in the second semester.

Michael Santucci

Michael Santucci is a teacher at the English Language Department with EF Academic Partnerships at ShanghaiTech University. He has taught English to students of all age levels and proficiencies. Michael has previous experience teaching English as a Second Language at a Southeast Asian community center in the United States. With more than two years of experience teaching in China, Michael has worked with young learners and developed academies for parents to help their children practice English outside the classroom. In addition to classroom teaching, he has made use of his love of English to train sales and customer service teams to develop their personal and professional skills. Michael focuses on teaching academic writing and oral English at ShanghaiTech. Students may also expect to join Michael for the Western Culture elective course. Michael graduated from Temple University in the US, where he studied Psychology and Neuroscience. He has completed a TEFL Certification as well as Cambridge TKT certifications.

Michael Santucci毕业于天普大学心理学专业,手握TEFL 证书-以英语为第二语言教授资质(Teaching English as a Foreign Language)和剑桥TKT剑桥大学颁发的英语教学能力证书(Teacher Knowledge Test)。Michael已在EF教授了3年的英语课程。来到中国之前,Michael在美国负责西南亚洲社区中心的英语课程教授。来到中国之后,Michael在上海的不同EF学校教授各年龄阶段的英语课程,在帮助中国学生提高学生的英语表达自信和流利度的同时,他也积极和中国家长交流如何在课后拓展阅读量和知识面。Michael老师除了有坚实的英语授课能力之外,也帮助EF的销售团队和客户服务团队更好地理解EF课程内容编写以及课程体系中的独到之处,提升销售团队和客户服务团队的英语沟通能力和英语学术领域的理解能力。在上海科技大学的这个学期,Michael将致力于学术写作以及口语课程的授课。



Charlie Su


Charlie Su is from London, England. He graduated from King’s College London with a BA in French and Management. As part of his degree he also spent some time studying at Paris Sorbonne. His areas of interest include French cinema, literature and linguistics.

He is TEFL and CELTA qualified and particularly enjoys working with young adults. His teaching career began in Shenzhen, China; where he taught young learners.

He is very excited to have joined EF Academic Partnerships and is looking forward to working closely with ShanghaiTech University. He will be teaching English Oral classes and Academic writing classes at undergraduate and graduate level. He also hopes to develop and deliver lectures on French literature in the coming semesters.


Charlie Su来自英国伦敦,毕业于伦敦的国王大学,主修管理学位和法语语言,在学习期间他也在巴黎的索邦进修。他助攻法语喜剧,文学以及语言文化这三个方面。

作为上海科技大学的英语教师,Charlie持有TEFL和剑桥CELTA的的证书,曾经在深圳的国际学校授课。Charlie非常高兴加入英孚学术合作部门,他将在上海科技大学担任英语口语,学术写作的课程老师。今后如果有幸,他希望给学生教授法国文学的课程。


Daniel Zuchowski

Daniel has a Bachelor's degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), Master's degree in Applied Linguistics (Corpus Linguistics), and he is currently researching for his PhD in Applied Linguistics. 

He loves sharing his passion for education with others by presenting and speaking at conferences around the world, and he is also involved in organising an international not-for-profit event called English Talks, which takes place in a different country each year, and which aims to bring together people from around the world and from across different disciplines to help them share their ideas with others.

Daniel is also the author of two books, and he has been invited to literary and cultural festivals and book events around the world (so far fifteen countries on four different continents).

Even though he has extensive teaching experience working with students at all levels and ages, Daniel chooses to specialise in EAP (English for Academic Purposes), exam preparation, communication in business and public speaking. He has worked at British and Irish universities and colleges as lecturer, and as language consultant in Spain and Brazil, providing language services and training to business clients. He is also a teacher trainer. 

Daniel作为上海科技大学的英语老师,持有TESOL证书,并且具有应用语言学的硕士学位,同时他也正在攻读应用语言学的博士学位。Daniel之前任职于非盈利机构English Talk,组织和参加全球范围内的应用语言讲座交流活动,活动的目的是希望来自世界各国的人们可以打破沟通的障碍相互交流想法。作为两本书的作者,Daniel曾经被邀请去参加世界各国的文学文化交流节和书展。(目前已造访遍布4大洲的15个国家)

尽管Daniel有着丰富的教学经验,他仍然选择加入英孚学术合作部门,致力于教授考试技能,商务语言沟通以及公共演讲等课程的教授。他相信他曾经在英伦大陆以及西班牙巴西的教学经验能给上海科技大学提供更好的教学体验。


Lee Curry

Lee Curry is a teacher who has been working within the industry for three years. First working as a Teacher at the University of Valencia. He has also worked to run and host a language exchange in the same city. He also worked for EF Kids and Teens for one year in Shanghai, teaching from the age ranges of twelve to eighteen.

However, his real passion lies with teaching older learners where results are more visible and exams are the focus. He also believes English teaching can take more diverse forms at this level. At Shanghai Tech he will be focusing on Intermediate and General English courses. He also teaches Business English and Public Speaking. He attended Cardiff University where he graduated with a degree in Politics/International Relations and Spanish Language and Literature. He also has a TEFL and he can speak English, Spanish and Italian fluently and has some conversational knowledge of Swedish.

Lee Curry在英语教育行业工作三年,最早是在西班牙的巴伦西亚任教,同时还管理一家语言交流中心,在这之后Lee来到上海的英孚教授12-18岁青少儿学生英语。

然后Lee的志向却是教授更成熟的学习者,特别是以备考技能为目的的学生,他坚信这个级别的英语学习方式可以非常多种多样。作为上海科技大学的英语老师,本学期Lee教授英语口语和以及学术写作,特别是针对中级别学生。
